Aged 19-30?

Consider joining under our sponsored Young Rider Scheme

Young riders are statistically more likely to be involved in a road traffic incident than most other groups of road users. Having inadequate skills is one of the main contributing factors.

To combat this issue, we want to encourage young riders to take the next step in their rider training and development, by providing financial support to achieve the IAM Advanced Rider qualification. From tight bends to busy towns, you’ll get better at reading the road, making decisions, and handling your bike with greater confidence. You’ll learn to spot hazards earlier, ride more smoothly, and feel in control.

Who is this scheme for? This scheme is aimed at all riders aged between 19 and 30 who hold either an A2 or a full A licence. You must have a machine that is road legal (taxed, insured and MoT’d) and capable of reaching the national speed limit.

How does the scheme work? You pay for the IAM Advanced Rider course up front. We pay for your Observer fuel contributions each time you have an observed ride, and when you pass your IAM Advanced Rider test we will refund you the full cost of your fees.

What will I get out of it? Your joining fee includes your first year’s membership to the IAM and to Solent Advanced Motorcyclists. You get one to one tuition with a qualified National Observer who will coach you through the course. They will be with you all the way until you are ready to pass your Advanced Rider test. Most riders take about 8-10 sessions but everyone is different – rest assured we will support you for as long as it takes.

What have I got to lose? Other than some time and a few coffees this is a no-brainer. You could avoid being one of the disproportionately high statistics that are untrained young riders.

UK Service Personnel

Use SLCs to offset 80% of the cost of advanced motorcycle training!

JCCC data shows that one in three reported road traffic collisions involve motorcyclists. We also know that Service Personnel—like any workers returning from deployment—can face higher risk when getting back on a bike after time away. (We’ve got plenty of serving and veteran riders ourselves!)

Our progressive training system, based on Police Roadcraft training, will help you anticipate and manage these challenges and improve your riding.
