Slow Riding Skills

Slow riding is a skill that we all need to have and maintain to be an Advanced Rider, but can you still do a u-turn within the constraints of a standard road?

Can you do a figure of 8 in the same restrictions?

Is slow riding your nemesis?

If the answer is “yes” to the latter, then you either aren’t practicing often enough, or have forgotten the core skills required to make slow manoeuvring a simple action.

It isn’t the bike, it isn’t the road surface; it isn’t the other traffic, it’s you.

We typically hold 5 slow riding sessions every year with 2 different levels focusing on slightly different skills.

Level 1 really is about how to control a motorcycle at walking pace or below.

Level 2 carries this theme forward, but adds in the ability to practice positive steering and positive braking.

The sessions both have 4 different exercises and everyone does all 4 during the event.

They are great fun and we can almost guarantee that you will come away with more confidence on how to control a bike in filtering; slow turning; pulling away with full lock; leaning into and driving out of corners; lock-to-lock manoeuvring; braking and swerving;  as well as u-turns and figures of 8.

We run these with either an Associate or Member focus.

Sessions will be advertised on the Club’s website and through email communications.

Keep an eye out for the next one.
